Joseph Barr, OD, FAAO

Dr. Barr is an active Emeritus Professor at The Ohio State University College of Optometry. He received his OD and MS at Ohio State in 1977 and 1979. For three years he was manager of clinical and materials research for Dow Corning Ophthalmics in the early 1980s. From 1983 to 2007 at Ohio State he was Contact Lens Clinical Service Chief and then Clinical Services Director and later Associate Dean for clinical services and professional programs. During that time he was the Director of the NEI sponsored Collaborative Longitudinal Evaluation of Keratoconus study photography reading center, and was the PI on numerous FDA studies and IITs.

​He has trained over 20 M.S. students in cornea and contact lenses and has over 50 peer reviewed publications in cornea and contact lenses. During his tenure with Ohio State, Dr. Barr served for two decades as editor of Contact Lens Spectrum and was founding editor of the electronic newsletter Contact Lenses Today. From July 2007 through June 2014 Dr. Barr was with Bausch + Lomb, initially as Vice President for R&D Global Vision Care and later for clinical and medical affairs for pharmaceuticals & vision care. Currently he is consulting with Lentechs LLC, a contact lens start-up company and Proteris, a dry eye biological product start-up company.
