Corneal Contact Lenses

Around 1947 corneal contact lenses came on the scene in the US with the advent of the Tuohy lens.

About the same time
Heinrich Wöhlk in Kiel, Germany made a similar discover with what was described as an edge-treated corneal lens separated from the scleral lens.

This began an era of invention and competition.
Others, such as George Butterfield of Oregon debuted corneal lenses about this same time.

Ultimately, there were
legal challenges as well, with a lawsuit between Kevin Tuohy and the Plastic Contact Lens Company of Chicago, IL.
